Who are we?

• Campus West the umbrella name for The Hawthorne Theatre and RollerCity.
• Campus West is Hertfordshire’s premier family entertainment and cultural centre
• Located in the centre of Welwyn Garden City, Campus West offers a state of the art Roller rink, a Theatre and Art House cinema, a Bar and Cafe and two art Galleries, with around 400,000 visitors a year
• We also provide a Keep Fit programme called “Fit in Body and Mind” across 3 venues – Campus West, Vineyard Barn and Hazel Grove Community Centre (both are managed by Campus West)  
• Campus West is proudly owned and Managed by Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council.

Mission statement

Campus West exists to provide audiences from the Borough of Welwyn Hatfield, Hertfordshire and beyond with access to an
            affordable, challenging and fun programme of events and activities. We will particularly strive to ensure an exciting range of
            events and activities are available to families using theatre, film, entertainment and roller skating to bring adults and children
            together. In doing so our mission will strengthen the community we serve through building relationships and stimulating
            imaginations and opportunities

Public Benefit Statement  

• The programme is planned so that across a full year it will cover a wide range of theatre, film, skating and other activities appealing to a broad audience. Particular regard is given to ticket-pricing, affordability, access and increasing the customer base
• Careful consideration is given to the accessibility of Campus West to those on low incomes through concessions; keep fit activities, community centres, free exhibitions, foyer music and performances in The Hawthorne theatre, The Green Square outside theatre and RollerCity
• Geographical reach is achieved through vibrant programming and the development links with Schools, The University of Hertfordshire local and regional businesses and community groups.      
• Campus West also seeks to develop new audiences and deepen engagement through a culture of openness and other activities both at Campus West and online

Aims and objectives

Campus West Hawthorne Theatre is central to the creative life Welwyn Hatfield and Hertfordshire. In its two performance spaces
            in Welwyn Garden City, it presents an eclectic mix of new plays and classics from the UK and world along with a challenging film
            programme, with at least 4 to 5 different events per week, and through foyer music, exhibitions, open air theatre– it recognises
            that theatre or film doesn’t begin and end with the rise and fall of the curtain.

Aims

The Hawthorne Theatre endeavours to maintain and re-energise the great traditions of the British stage and international film to
            expand the horizons of audiences and artists alike. It aspires to reflect in its repertoire and film the diversity of the region’s
            culture.

Objectives

• The Hawthorne Theatre’s continuing objective is to present a balanced artistic programme. touring theatre and challenging films are is a key to this as the means of taking artistic risks and responding to audience demand. The Hawthorne Theatre’s endeavours to programme  to the highest standards by attracting the best artists and films to an environment that enables and stimulates artists and the audience their fullest extent
• These are The Hawthorne Theatre’s constant objectives. Alongside are two long-term and interlinked strategies:

• The Hawthorne Theatre seeks to broaden the work it stages, by nurturing plays, commissioning where possible, and supporting local dramatic, and performance based groups by active project development of all kinds
• It seeks to broaden its audiences through the programming choices it makes, by keeping ticket prices a keen as possible and by making manifest its ambition to be bold, challenging and accessible.

Campus West through Green Square productions actively support long established not for profit Arts Groups

Green Square production is a way for Campus West to support excellence in Art locally by providing by providing expertise,

facilities and assistance to artist and companies who want to progress and grow.
